South Coast Wine Festival at Highcliffe Castle
Highcliffe Castle’s dramatic clifftop position overlooking the English Channel sets the stage for the South Coast Wine Festival. This Grade I listed Gothic Revival building, with its ornate stonework and historic interiors, blends seamlessly with the event’s focus on wine culture and craftsmanship.
The festival spreads across the castle’s 14-acre grounds, where tasting stations feature over 250 wines from British producers and international labels.
English sparklings sit alongside robust reds and crisp whites, poured by knowledgeable exhibitors who discuss terroir and production methods. These informal sessions suit both seasoned enthusiasts and those new to wine appreciation.
Inside the castle, masterclasses take place in intimate rooms, guided by experts on specific regions or varietals. The historic surroundings – high ceilings, stained glass, and period details – enhance the educational feel without overwhelming it.
Culinary elements play a key role. Chefs conduct live demonstrations on food and wine pairings, using local ingredients where possible. Stalls offer street food-style options, from artisan cheeses to grilled seafood, designed to complement the drinks on pour.
Live music performs throughout the grounds, ranging from acoustic sets to fuller bands on a main stage area.
The mix keeps energy levels steady, with cultural touches adding variety. A supercar display brings an unexpected glamour, parked on the lawns for closer inspection.
The grounds themselves contribute significantly. Manicured parterres near the castle give way to woodland paths linking to Steamer Point Nature Reserve. Sea views frame many tasting spots, and the cliff top location catches breezes that keep the atmosphere fresh even on warmer days.
The festival layout flows naturally: central areas handle main tastings and food, while quieter corners suit relaxed sipping. Pathways connect everything, making movement straightforward amid the crowds.
The event takes place over the weekend 14- 16 August 2026. Book tickets online here: https://southcoastwinefestival.co.uk/product/south-coast-wine-festival-wine-tasting-experience/
