Christchurch Men’s Shed

A community workshop in Highcliffe provides a dedicated space for practical activities and companionship through the Christchurch Men’s Shed. Established in 2016 as a registered charity and affiliated with the UK Men’s Sheds Association, the organisation operates from the Lower Hall at The Old School on Lymington Road.

Members engage in woodworking, furniture restoration, metalworking, and various DIY tasks. The well-equipped workshop supports both individual pursuits and group efforts on community-oriented initiatives. Tools are available for use, with donations of equipment welcomed to maintain and expand facilities.

The shed emphasises skill-sharing among participants, allowing experienced individuals to guide others in techniques ranging from basic repairs to more intricate constructions. Projects often include crafting items for local causes or restoring pieces that might otherwise be discarded.

Social interaction forms a core part of the experience, with opportunities for conversation over tea or coffee in the on-site kitchen.

Outings to sites such as museums or castles have been arranged in the past, offering variety beyond workshop sessions.

Governance occurs through an elected management committee, ensuring member input shapes operations. The move to the current premises from an earlier site at Greystones House has provided greater space and accessibility, supporting increased participation.
