Chewton Bunny

Chewton Bunny

Chewton Bunny is a charming nature reserve tucked away on the outskirts of Highcliffe, right next to the New Forest in Dorset. It’s basically a steep-sided valley carved out by the Walkford Brook, full of lush woodland and wildlife, including some ancient tree species that give it a real sense of history.

The name “bunny” comes from an old local term for a narrow ravine or chine, and back in the day, it apparently served as a handy smuggling route along the coast.

You can wander along gravel paths that wind through the trees, and there’s even a waterfall to discover if you follow the trails towards the beach. It connects directly to Highcliffe Beach on the eastern side, making it perfect for a stroll that combines woodland vibes with seaside views.

The area is dog-friendly, with benches dotted around for a quick rest, and it’s managed by the local council as part of their green spaces. If you’re into fossils, the nearby beach is known for that sort of thing too.

Overall, it’s a peaceful spot for a walk, especially if you fancy escaping into nature without straying too far from town.
